What is Tahoe Tip!

Tahoe Tip is a nickname some of the North Shore Tahoe locals gave to Don after he and Lana left the freeways of Southern California behind and became full-time residents at the family cabin.

Lana and Don purchased this cabin in 1977 as a second home and fulfilled one of Don’s lifelong dreams of immersing his family in this mountain paradise. Born in Missouri, Dad was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, and the first “leave” he took, he hitchhiked up to what his fellow airmen referred to as, "that beautiful lake, high up in the majestic Sierra Nevada's"

At the very moment he first passed over the Brockway Summit and witnessed the most beautiful sight he had ever set his eyes upon, he knew that one day this magical mountain paradise would be called his home, (or second home initially)..... And that's where this Fairytale story of the man, his family and the mountain lake they so love began, over 50 years ago...

Having transferred from the East coast with his career to Northern California earlier that year,  Lake Tahoe was an easy drive for the weekend, and we explored as much of Tahoe’s shoreline every chance we could get away. Though when Dad received the last of his (seemingly countless) transfers to Southern California and the drive became 8 hours (10 hours for Mom and Dad) instead of 2, it became clear that we weren’t going to be able to get there as often.

The story of our first trip to the cabin, the Ford Country Squire station wagon loaded up with 4 kids, a dog, (through a blizzard ) dragging furnishings for the whole house and everything ”including the kitchen sink” in a oversized trailer with the roof rack piled high is one of family legend....seriously, you just had to be there to understand how pathetic we were....and just be glad you weren’t...more to follow.
